Daily Dose of Thankfulness

In this holiday season just after Thanksgiving, it can cause us to reflect on what we have for a day and then forget about it. We go from thanking the Lord and others for their impact on our lives, thankful for family, friends, etc. Then we focus on what we can get from others during the Christmas season. Perhaps the spirit of thankfulness could become a daily practice so that Thanksgiving can become almost like an ordinary day and Christmas can be about what we can give instead of get.

Here are 10 ways to add a bit more thankfulness into your daily life to make it a practice rather than a holiday:

  1. Carve out 5 minutes in your morning, before you start your day, to reflect on the good in the day ahead.

  2. Text one person a day something you admire about them. Make a list!

  3. Keep a journal before bed and write a paragraph of reflection.

  4. Spend time with people instead of spending money on gifts.

  5. Take a step out of the city and walk in nature. The fresh air has very real benefits to our mood and health!

  6. Remember that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. There will always be someone else struggling with the same trials as you, even if you don’t know it.

  7. Even if you struggle with health, life itself is something to be thankful for.

  8. Surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you. If your friends don’t do that, seek out new friends.

  9. Take care of yourself. Drink more water, take a shower, get exercise, eat healthier. You are worth the effort.

  10. Do something that scares you and CELEBRATE your victories. You deserve a little time to be proud of yourself and celebrate others too.
